About the game

Player Requirements

You need a computer with Chrome, Firefox, or Brave browser installed to play. The game is not available for mobile devices yet. You can login to your game account from anywhere, just have your crypto wallet installed on the device.

Tokennomics

MANA is a Decentraland token running on the ERC-20 network. The original total supply of the token was limited to 2,805,886,393 pcs and the current total supply is 2,194,916,827 pcs. As early as November 2018, the keys handling the MANA smart contract were sent to a self-destruct address [https://etherscan.io/address/0xdf861993edbe95bafbfa7760838f8ebbd5afda9f], which is the recommended way to “discard keys” in Ethereum. As a result, the MANA smart contract became virtually fixed forever, without the possibility of minting additional tokens or suspending the contract. The purpose of the MANA token is to allow Decentraland users to purchase parcels, goods and services from other users.

LAND (1000 MANA = 1 LAND) is a rare, non-fungible digital asset maintained by the Ethereum smart contract, which represents the parcels of a virtual land within Decentraland.

You can visit the Decentraland Marketplace and view all available LANDs or ESTATEs currently available for sale. On 15 December, 2017, the first land auction called the Terraform Event was conducted. The auction ended in January 2018 and the participants were given parcels that cost about USD 20 (the price of one MANA was USD 0.02 at that time). As of 19 March, 2022, the cheapest parcels are around MANA 10,000 (approx. USD 25,000).

Team

Decentraland was co-founded by Ariel Meilich and Esteban Ordano. They resigned from the main positions in the project but still act as consultants.

Ariel Meilich was a project manager at Decentraland from 2017 to 2020. He is an entrepreneur who has founded several startups, including an online translation agency and a CRM platform. He also worked as an analyst at Charles River Ventures company, a major investment fund in Silicon Valley.

Esteban Ordano is a former technical manager at Decentraland. He has a long history in the world of cryptocurrencies, having worked as a software engineer at BitPay, Inc., a consultant at Matic Network company, and briefly running his own smart contract development company known as Smart Contract Solutions.

Esteban also co-founded Zeppelin Solutions, an established blockchain infrastructure company.

Although Ariel and Esteban no longer lead the project, development on the Decentraland still continues and the recently established Decentraland Foundation manages its activities.

Social Media and Online Presence

Analytic Opinion

“Decentraland is a perfectly running metaverse that provides people with fun and relaxation in the form of meetings or opportunities to attend concerts or go to the casino. I also like that players can share and monetize their own work directly in the application. The game also seems to have well-setup tokenomics.

If you are a player who is looking for a chance to try a working metaverse, you will definitely get your worth in Decentraland. If you are an investor who wants to join the metaverse, you will not find any interesting opportunities at this stage. However, Decentraland is a model example of how investing in the game in its early stages can pay off.“

Decentraland is a decentralized virtual reality platform running on the Ethereum blockchain. Within the Decentraland platform, users can create and monetize their items and applications. Players create content using tools like SketchUp, Blender and Maya. The content can then be imported into Decentraland in the .gltf or .glb format.

The finite, walkable, 3D virtual space within Decentraland is called LAND, which is a non-fungible digital asset maintained in the Ethereum network.

First you create your avatar, which you can adjust at your will. With the avatar, you will begin to discover the environment of Decentraland. You can talk to other avatars you meet along the way, you can dance, use various gestures, attend a concert, play poker or just walk around. You can also participate in charity events, concerts, parties, karaoke, or create these events by yourself. A list of events can be found here: List of events. However, your crypto wallet has to be connected to the game to attend and host events.

The LAND is divided into parcels, which are identified by their Cartesian coordinates (x, y). These parcels are permanently owned by community members and purchased using a MANA token. This gives users full control over the environment they create and applications, which may include anything from static 3D scenes to more interactive applications or games.

ESTATE is a non-fungible digital asset representing two or more directly adjacent LANDs associated together. These parcels have to be directly adjacent and cannot be separated by a road, square or other parcel. By merging LANDs into ESTATEs, you can easily manage multiple parcels at once. ESTATEs are especially useful in building larger scenery, which is spread over more parcels.

Some parcels are further organized into thematic communities or Districts. By organizing parcels into Districts, the community can create shared spaces with common interests and uses. You can find a list of the original District designs on GitHub. The content that makes up Decentraland is stored and distributed through a decentralized network, while ownership and transactions are verified on the Ethereum blockchain.

If you come across someone in the game who is misbehaving, you can block them. You will still see them on the screen, but they will not be able to type to you in the chat. You can also report a player to notify the Decentraland community of the player’s behavior.
