Alchemy Launches Platform for Web 3.0 Developers

The blockchain developer claims that this new tool can create a decentralized application in 4 minutes.

The blockchain industry's goal is mass adoption of the technology, but there is a steep learning curve in integrating such a large group of people into the Web 3.0 space. But Alchemy believes their newly created platform, called Create Web3 Dapp (CW3D), will help attract more people to blockchain and decentralized technologies.

In an interview with Decrypt, Alchemy's Product Manager, Elan Halpern said that, "Our mission and vision is to bring Blockchain or Web 3.0 to a billion people," adding, "The way we really see it is empowering developers."

Halpern thinks that bringing Web 3.0 and blockchain to more people has to start with the developers themselves, who must have the passion and enthusiasm to create products that people will then use.

"There is something of a flywheel, where if you want my grandmother to be able to use a Web 3.0 application, there has to be a product that she would actually like to use. And for there to be a product, the developer has to be excited about creating it," Halpern said.

Founded in 2017, Alchemy is a blockchain software development company that has developed applications for several blockchains such as Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum and Optimism. The company also plans to integrate Solana in the future.

Alchemy, which is often referred to as the AWS of blockchain, raised 250 million USD in Series C funding in October 2021, and was successful in acquiring Ethereum's Chainshot coding platform last August.

According to Halpern, the CW3D tool is intentionally designed to be open source.

"We want people to participate in it," she said. "It's about being able to create your own templates, components, and find the features and things you want." She added that the main goal of the tool is to make life better for developers. "That means getting a lot of other ecosystems involved, getting a lot of other developer advocates involved, and getting people in there to contribute."

Alchemy routinely makes bold claims that the products it creates will enable incredibly quick development. Last November, the company released Spearmint, a platform for Ethereum second-layer projects, which it claimed would enable an allowlist to be created in less than 10 minutes. Developing a dApp on the Create Web3 Dapp (CW3D) platform reportedly takes four minutes. However, Halpern said those four minutes depend on several factors, such as connectivity, while adding that it comes with basic tools for developers to create a decentralized app, so the time required should still be less than other methods.

"What we've done is written down the absolutely essential packages and libraries that you need to set up a dapp. We're not going to make it really heavy, it's not going to be super bloated, it's going to be lightweight," Halpern said.

Similar projects used to create decentralized apps include Cosmos, Infura and Algorand. On Thursday, the Coinbase exchange announced the launch of its own dApp , Base, an Ethereum layer 2 network.

"Creating in a Web 3.0 environment now is a lot like creating websites in the 1990s - it's a hot space, there's a lot of opportunity, but the infrastructure tools and support you get as a developer are almost nil," Halpern said. "If you really want to build the next generation of mainstream apps, the tools and infrastructure have to support you in doing that."
