This Survey Shows that 21% of Blockchain Games have Halted Development

The ever-expanding industry of blockchain games offers a huge number of titles and new ones are being added all the time. However, there are also several Web 3.0 games on the market that have had to halt development for a variety of reasons.

In its April update, the Big Blockchain Game List portal revealed that of the 852 games listed, 104 projects are classified as "discontinued." Discontinued projects are often easy to spot, with canceled social media accounts or websites that have been taken down. Sometimes, however, detecting a dead project is trickier, but the rule of thumb is that if it hasn't updated its website or added any social posts for at least a year, it's likely to have been discontinued.

Of the 556 projects that were marked as "In Development," 83 - or 15% - were found to have been terminated. Meanwhile, of the 224 games that had already been launched, 21, or 9%, had been terminated

In total, there are 945 games on the Big Blockchain Game List, of which 197 are currently marked as discontinued, which corresponds to an historically high failure rate of 21%.

However, these numbers do not necessarily indicate the failure of the GameFi industry as a whole. In fact, the opposite is the case, as the current bear market is merely eliminating weaker projects. Those that make it through this period will be stronger and more successful in the next bull market.
