How can we make GameFi more mainstream?
According to many players in the gaming industry, GameFi projects usually focus on NFT and Play-To-Earn features more than the actual gaming experience. But in order to increase users' interest, blockchain games should focus more on meeting gameplay expectations.
During Asia Crypto Week, the Executive Director of the Asian Blockchain Gaming Alliance (ABGA), Kevin Shao, fired a warning to game developers, stating that a lack of engagement with gameplay is the main hindrance to the mass adoption of GameFi.
While Shao accepted that there is fun involved in these games, he still believes that compromises have to be made that provide a more gamer-focused approach with gameplay options for a wider audience. To do so, developers must find new ways to adapt mainstream gaming features for blockchain games, in order to make GameFi more appealing to wider crowds.
Shao also gave some examples of a number of “Triple-A” projects which he believes might be a good fit for this new approach, such as Illuvium, Phantom Galaxies and Big Time. Shao stated that these games have strong teams and major investors behind them, which might give them the chance to create something different from other projects and potentially be game changers for the GameFi industry.
