Splinterlands Changes the Energy System

The current energy system in battles was unnecessarily complex and did not suit many players. The team is therefore developing a redesigned version of this system that will be simpler and clearer.

The Energy Capture Rate (ERC) system has been redesigned based on player requests. A new version of the system, intended to be more straightforward, will be released on March 21, 2023, during regular game maintenance.

How the new ERC system will work

The Splinterlands team plans to give each player 50 energy per account to play ranked battles (one battle = one energy). Energy is automatically replenished at the rate of 1 energy per hour. If players do not want to wait for the replenishment, they can purchase energy with $DEC token. If a player runs out of this energy, they cannot play ranked battles until the energy is replenished.

Another significant change is that energy will no longer be factored into calculating rewards for ranked battles in the form of reward points or SPS rewards. It means that players will receive the same rewards for battles won regardless of whether they have 50 of 50 remaining energy or 1 of 50 remaining energy.

The UI will also undergo further changes, as it will now inform players of the energy they have left before a battle. This information will be next to the "Battle" button so players won't miss it. Plus, they can open this information to view more about the energy system and purchase additional energy if needed.

ATTENTION - At the moment of the update to this new ERC system, players will be recalculated the remaining energy according to how much they had at the time of the update. So, if a player had 50% energy at the time of the update, they would receive 25 as this is half of 50.

Buying energy

Each player can purchase a maximum of 50 additional energy per day, allowing them to play 100 battles per day if they have their complete starting energy. The cost required to purchase extra energy will vary based on the player's league, season Chest level, and Daily Chest level in both Modern and Wild play. It is because the rewards earned in the higher leagues are worth more than those in, the lower leagues, and the price of additional energy must be adjusted accordingly. Energy can be purchased with $DEC and $DEC-B tokens, which will be burned by the purchase or with credits. If the player pays credits, the Splinterlands team will burn a number of DEC tokens equivalent to the number of credits. This token burning benefits the entire ecosystem of the game.

The cost required to purchase energy varies by league:

Bronze - 1 $DEC

Silver - 10 $DEC

Gold - 50 $DEC

Diamond - $150 $DEC

Champion - 500 $DEC

Summary

The players designed this new system practically, and the team welcomed the change. This move will simplify the entire power consumption system and make it more accessible to new players familiar with the concept of classic Free-To-Play games. Players will be able to play a total of 24 rated battles per day, or if they skip a day and wait for their energy to replenish, they can play 50 battles, and more active players can purchase energy and play up to 100 battles. Thanks to the $DEC token burning system, the entire game ecosystem is kept healthy, and the game can be further developed and improved.
