Square Enix and Polygon Create New NFT Game
A new game from the Japanese gaming giant called "Symbiogenesis" is being built on the Polygon blockchain.
Square Enix, the Japanese company behind the successful Final Fantasy game series, is building a new NFT gaming experience on the Polygon blockchain. The company plans to launch its first NFT experience in the spring.
Naoyuki Tamate, the producer of Symbiogenesis, said in a statement, "Symbiogenesis was designed from the ground up on the blockchain and is designed to provide an exceptional community-building and trading experience."
He further added: "Square Enix has chosen to leverage the high transaction speed, low GAS fees, and the overall user-friendliness of the Polygon blockchain to provide Web 3.0 fans with this unique experience."
NFT game Symbiogenesis
Square Enix is one of the first major game developers to embrace blockchain and NFT technology. In November 2022, the company announced it wanted to create a new game on the Ethereum network that would use NFT as social media profile pictures and characters in the story. Moreover, this game was revealed to take place in an alternate world where players will solve mysteries and strategize.
Now more details about the game are surfacing, such as that the game will be based on Ethereum's sister network, Polygon. The game is expected to occur on a floating continent that floats above polluted future earth. The society in this game is forced to pool resources and stand together to fight against the rampaging dragon.
Polygon Labs presents additional information
The development team of Polygon's decentralized protocol, Polygon Labs, has revealed that the upcoming game will feature 10,000 NFT characters. Players will reportedly be able to freely exchange NFTs with each other but will not be required to own those NFTs to play.
Vice president of global game and platform development at Polygon Labs, Urvit Goel said: "We are very proud to be working with Square Enix, a highly respected gaming company with a proven track record spanning several decades."
He added, "Our latest collaboration only proves that Web 3.0 is decisively gaining more and more fans among the world's biggest developers, proving once again that this innovative set of technologies and their benefits have huge potential in the gaming industry."
Symbiogenesis is scheduled for release this spring. Hopefully, we will soon see some trailer or demo with this NFT game being developed by gaming veteran Square Enix.
